The Tamil Nadu district post office has reported a noteworthy achievement in the fiscal year 2022-23, with revenues totaling Rs 1,253.62 crore. J. Charukesi, the head of the principal post office, announced this accomplishment during a press briefing in Chennai.
The Indian Postal Department annually observes Postal Week, commemorating the establishment of the United Postal Union in 1874. This year`s theme for World Postal Day is `Unite in Hope,` with a series of events scheduled from October 9th to October 15th.
The schedule of activities during Postal Week includes Financial Empowerment Day on October 10th, focusing on raising awareness about postal savings schemes among villagers. On Stamp Collection Day, which falls on the 11th, efforts are directed at educating school students about stamp collection. Additionally, Mail and Parcel Day, held on the 12th, features customer meetings to acquaint them with the postal department`s new services. Anthyothaya Day on the 13th aims to promote awareness of the cost-effective services offered by the Postal Department.
The Tamil Nadu District Post Office offers a range of services, including Parcel Service and Postal Service, which contributed to the impressive revenue of Rs 1,253.62 crore in the fiscal year 2022-23. This represents a significant growth of 12.8 percent compared to the previous year.
In the same fiscal year, revenue was generated as follows: Rs 659.97 crore through postal savings accounts, Rs 1,181.37 crore through postal life insurance, Rs 721.24 crore through rural postal life insurance, and Rs 4.66 crore through the sale of gold bonds.
Furthermore, the Postal Department had set a target of earning Rs 689.21 crore through savings accounts for the fiscal year 2022-23. Remarkably, the actual revenue exceeded expectations, reaching Rs 695.97 crore, surpassing the target by 101 percent. Tamil Nadu`s performance was exemplary, ranking 2nd nationwide with 32.57 lakh new accounts opened under the Selvamalam Savings Scheme.
